All of the wines from Emandare are 100% estate grown and dry farmed organically on our 8.5-acre North Cowichan vineyard. We are not certified organic but choose to farm this way because working along side nature is at the core of our wine growing philosophy. The vineyard is full of life and our goal is to capture a glimpse of this place in every bottle through old world, low intervention, natural wine making methods.
The 2015 Pinot Noir comes from 15-year-old vines. Hand harvested and naturally cropped at 2 tons per acre, the 2015 vintage gave us beautifully balanced bright fruit capable of transparently showcasing a true expression of our terroir. The grapes were gently crushed, de-stemmed put into puncheons for ferment. This wine was fermented in 500L neutral oak puncheons using wild yeast. After ferment, the wine was racked into and aged for 12 months neutral French oak barrels then tucked away in bottle for 7 months before release.
Our Pinot Noir captures the authentic nature of Emandare and truly expresses itself as a wine that tastes like somewhere instead of something. We are always blown away by the nature of this wine and the balanced medium body capable of long term ageability. Expect a wine with a velvety round and supple texture that fills your palate with cherry, apple blossom, wild mushrooms and dusty floral notes all framed in by a distinct minerality and clean bergamot like tannins to finish it off. Expressing itself youthful and vibrant right now with a capability of developing an elegant maturity in your cellar over the long term.
